McCarthy's new project

Uncle Sam would probably not have approved. But this month, the Haus der Kunst is launching an exhibition devoted to American artist Paul McCarthy. Regarded as one the most influential contemporary artists in the world, McCarthy takes a swipe at the “American way of life,” by using typical American products, such as Ketchup, Disneyland, Comics and many more in his work. The exhibition—“Lala Land: Parodie Paradies”—runs from June 12 until August 26 and will feature the public debut of McCarthy’s newest installations—Pirate Project and Western Project. Using drawings, film and sculpture, these look at the clichés and myths behind pirates and cowboys and at their role in the development of American civilization. In a nod to BUGA, McCarthy has also designed a giant inflatable bouquet of flowers, which will be erected on the roof of the Haus der Kunst.
