Suitcase Seminar: Central Turkey

Join MUNICH FOUND’s “Suitcase Seminar” October 28–November 5, 2006—the first in a series of exclusive tours designed to promote a better understanding of the world in which we live. This adventure through time explores the development of media from an anthropological/historical perspective by examining prehistoric oral traditions; visual communication through cave paintings and primitive art; the rise of civilizations in Mesopotamia and the development of writing under the Hittite and Persian Empires; the communication network of the Ottoman Empire; as well as the modern media in the digital age, with the last two days spent in Istanbul, “where East meets West,” and an analysis of Turkey’s claims of pertaining to modern-day Europe. The study leader, Dr. Neil Wilson, has a PhD in cultural anthropology from Boston University. His 20 years of university experience teaching cultural anthropology, his eight summers in Turkey introducing students to Anatolia’s past and present treasures and his engaging personality make him the ideal person to lead a cultural tour for sophisticated travelers. Travel arrangements have been made through Just Travel. The tour is restricted to 20 participants and costs € 1,520 per person. A supplement for a single room is € 225. If only 16–19 participants register, the price will be € 1,630 per person. Prices include airfare (Munich–Antalya, Ankara–Istanbul, Istanbul–Munich), eight nights’ accommodation in double rooms in four-star hotels (except in Corum, where the group will stay in a three-star hotel) on a half-board basis (breakfast & dinner), transportation by deluxe motor coach, the lecture series, being escorted by Dr. Wilson, a local guide throughout, airport transfers and admission fees.
