“Once upon a winter...”

The Tollwood Winter Festival is back on the Theresienwiese from November 29 to December 31, with an overwhelming array of performances, gastronomic delights and artisan exhibitors. This year, the annual festival has chosen the theme “Fairy Tales” to give shape to its offerings. At the center of it all is the Gastro-Opera Hänsel and Gretel (covered in last month’s food column). Local celebrities will read fairy tales for audiences in Kokon’s Literature Café. Visitors can also step into their own storybook land at the popular Tief im Wald (Deep in the Forest) Bar or by paying a visit to a gingerbread model of Munich’s City Hall, built entirely of organic materials. The Kids’ Tent, open Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm to 7 pm, and weekends, 1 pm to 7 pm, will offer puppet shows, face painting and more for your own little fairies and frog princes. The Tollwood Winter Festival will be open Monday through Friday, 2 pm to midnight, and weekends, 11 am to midnight. For a full schedule of events, call the ticket hotline at Tel. 0700-38 38 50 24, or visit www.tollwood.de. <<<
