Julius Shulman

Perhaps as much as architects, photographer Julius Shulman is responsible for the growth of modern American architecture. Through his images of high-concept buildings in magazines and newspapers, Shulman introduced the general public to new structural forms, and made them more palatable to American tastes. At age 96, he is just now receiving recognition for 70 years of work documenting American architectural history and developing the field of architecture photography. Munich’s Haus der Architektur (Waisenhausstr. 4) is hosting a selection of his work in the exhibition, “A Life for Architecture: Photographer Julius Shulman,” on display until March 30.
