Farlanders

Review of the Farlanders' new CD

Farlanders**** The Farlander (Jaro Music Records) If Joni Mitchell is the definitive American female songwriter, then Inna Zhelannaya is her Russian counterpart. In fact, since the early 1990s, music critics worldwide have compared the Moscow-born singer with the Little Yellow Taxi authoress. Lead vocalist of the Farlanders, Zhelannaya boasts a voice reminiscent of Bjork, the Cocteau Twins’ Liz Frasier and wacky Bulgarian women’s choir Les Mysteres Voix. Finally, the Farlanders’ debut album has arrived in Germany. What a treat! A pop-rock-jazz-Russian-folklore explosion, the CD promises to enrapture, delight and intrigue.
