Dialogue without an Encounter

It is an exceptional feature of the modern art world that we can make cross-references between works of different artists, even though they have never met or even known of each other’s existence. Such is the case with Dadaist/Surrealist Hans Arp and Fritz Winter. In the early 1930s Fritz Winter created a number of “biomorphic” works that have been neglected within the artist’s œuvre to this day. Those works on paper and canvas will be on display next to collages and reliefs by Hans Arp, revealing an elective affinity never intended by either artist. The dialogue between their work showcases central questions of abstraction in art. The exhibition opens on February 14 at the art section of Pinakothek der Moderne. <<<
