April 2008

Gerhard Merz

Due to reconstruction work and a commissioned extension, the Lenbachhaus will close in March 2009, and for at least two years, the museum’s whole collection will disappear into storage. To give visitors a chance to see the most interesting acquisitions before the closing, the museum has launched an exhibition series, “Ein Abschied auf Zeit in mehreren Kapiteln” (A temporary farewell in several chapters). One chapter of the exhibition will be dedicated to Gerhard Merz and his cycle Mondo Cane, which was created as part of the project “aktuell 83” and first displayed at the Lenbachhaus in 1983. Merz was born in 1947 near Munich. His works were presented at the Documenta in Kassel and at the Venice Biennale. Today he is a professor at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Monde Cane will be on display from April 12 through March 2009 in the historical rooms of the Lenbachhaus. <<<
