Ooh La L.A.

L.A.-ex. exhibition

In April and May, the Villa Stuck and the Marstall theater will present the exhibition L.A.-ex. The multimedia event, which focuses on modern artists from Los Angeles, deals with such topics as isolation, violence, the birth and unraveling of Hollywood myths and the entertainment industry. At the Marstall theater, audio and video installations illustrate the history of cinema and electronic music. On April 13, “Fort Knox de DAF” (Deutsch-Amerikanische-Freundschaft) by Raymond Pettibon, Hans Weigand and Jonathan Meese, is slated to begin the theater’s offerings. From April 13 to June 12, the former mansion of painter Franz von Stuck will house a variety of exhibits. The former dining room of the 1897 estate will house, for instance, Meg Cranston’s installation Life, Death, Miscellaneous. In the work, two lone grand pianos represent life and death. On Sundays, a pianist will play standards such as “All You Need is Love” on the piano that represents “life.” For further information about L.A.-ex., call the Marstall at 21 85 19 40 or the Villa Stuck at 45 55 51 25.
