New priest, new name-St. Kilian's is now the English-speaking Catholic Mission

As reported in the March 2000 issue of Munich Found, St. Kilian’s Irish Catholic Mission has served the needs of English-speaking Catholics in Munich for the past 12 years. Initially established to provide spiritual guidance and practical support for the some 4,000 Irish Catholics who resided in the Isar city in 1988, the mission has — on account of its ever-growing international group of parishioners, and because of Munich’s dwindling Irish population, which now stands at 875 — recently merged with other English-speaking Catholic missions. This summer, Father William Buckley took over the reins at the recently renamed English-speaking Catholic Mission, replacing Father Tom Healy, who headed St. Kilian’s Mission for its dozen years. With the melding of missions, Munich’s English-speaking Catholic Mission is 8,000 members strong. In addition to its large variety of activities and support groups, the new mission celebrates three weekly Sunday masses: 10:15, St. Bonifaz, Karlstrasse 34; 10:30, Berchmanns (Jesuit) Kolleg, Kaulbachstrasse 31a; and 18:00, Kreuzkirche, Kreuzstrasse.
