Paint by Numbers

Many composers have been inspired by paintings, and vice versa. The impressionistic sounds of compositions by Claude Debussy (1862–1918) were strongly influenced by the art of Claude Monet. Such illustrious artists as Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) were fascinated by music’s emotional power. In his Compositions V-VII, the painter colorfully brought a concert by Alban Schönberg to canvas. The project Music Painting Event, on July 4 and 11, will focus on the mutual interests of music and art. Four young artists—Nancy Larison, Monika Franke, Stafan Dorn and Vuk Jevremovic—will create their works synchronous to the musical performances of pieces by contemporary composers—Minas Borboudakis, Peter Michael Hamel, Wilfried Hiller and Wilhelm Kilimayer. Both “art in progress” nights will begin at 8 pm in the courtyard of the Künstlerhaus, Lenbachplatz 8. For tickets, call (089) 59 91 840. <<< KA
