Food for Thought

“What shall we cook today?” This daily source of deliberation will be explored from September 12 to 23 in the project Tafelrunden (Round Tables), during which seven internationally renowned artists will present their philosophies on food, food aesthetics, food’s significance in foreign cultures, food consumers, food as a communication strategy and eating habits. Visitors may be offered culinary treats; several lucky participants will even take part in a major event. On Friday, September 21, Japanese artist Chelin will treat 50 raffle winners to a seven-course dinner. Each monochrome course will have a different hue and dinner guests are requested to dress all in white. To participate in the raffle, call 2 31 70 00. For a bit of glam, purchase one of Angela Dorrer’s “Celebrity Cookies,” small edible objects formed in the mouths of German celebrities and then baked. The project also features artists who committed themselves to the traditional English breakfast or allude to the biblical feeding of ten thousand. After visiting Tafelrunden your answer to the question “What shall we cook today?” just might be: “Let’s have a bite of art for dinner.” All events take place at the Maximiliansunterführung (underpass Maximilianstr./Altstadtring).
