Two-part harmony

German/American relations cooled in the months leading up to the invasion of Iraq and though efforts have been made to repair the damage, there remains a lot to be done. This month’s Elysium Festival at Kloster Bernried, set up with the specific aim of improving friendly ties between the two nations, may help things move forward. In the idyllic surroundings of the Benedictine monastery on Lake Starnberg, the festival—the first of its kind—will include musical events, an art exhibition and a visit by Daniel Coats, the American ambassador in Berlin. For details of the program call the organizers at (08158) 90 68 51and tickets can be purchased by calling the Residenz Bücherstube in Munich at (089) 22 08 68.
