No dough, no show?

Whoever said that you get nothing for free in this world obviously never spent time in Munich. There are a number of open-air events to be held at beautiful locations around the city this summer and, here is the best part, they are FREE! From July 4 there will be performances in amphitheater on the north side of the English Garden. For more information visit On July 12 at 6 pm, you can enjoy a classical concert by young musicians in front of Badenburg pavilion at Nymphenburger Palace Park. Then from July 11 to 13, Friedensengelfest, live music and celebration centered around the peace angel. See for further information. The acoustic highlight of the summer will be a performance of Falstaff during the opera festival at the Nationaltheater, transmitted live to screens set up at Max-Joseph-Platz. This will take place on July 13 at 7 pm. On one Saturday at the end of July, the Alt-Schwabinger Wirtefest (landlord’s festival), a large traditional street festival round the Wedekindplatz, features various bands. Check the local press for more information. And, last but by no means least, the popular summer festival in the Olympia Park runs from August 7 to 24, during which time visitors can experience the Theatron Music Summer (situated in the small open-air theater by the Olympic lake) and hear what the Munich music scene has to offer in the way of rock and jazz. With this tempting array of free entertainment on offer, we are truly spoiled for choice these coming months.
